The first thing we should do is optimize the location selection of wind farms. Avoid areas known for high biodiversity value or regions critical for endangered species. We need to involve the local governmental agency to ensure that we adhere to the right regulations. They will also give us some guidance. Once the wind farm is in operation, we need to establish an ongoing monitoring system on site.

As most mature companies would adhere to during assessment and implementation of greenfield and brownfield projects alike, thorough ecology studies are completed to ensure alignment with existing ecosystems. Preconstruction studies and environmental management is important but just as pertinent is operational management and planning to align, then regularly review, to ensure the controls align and adapt with the evolving biosphere. As technology is ever changing, so is our environments which share the footprint of our assets. With regular monitoring and reporting, we can have assurances in our operational management plans that they are effective in preserving our local and transient forna and flora.

Este é um tema de grande importância e que merece atenção das empresas, afinal quando o desenvolvimento trazido pelos parques eólicos chegou, a fauna já estava lá. Empreendimentos que estejam em rotas migratórias, berçários naturais, ou áreas onde ocorra a alimentação da vida silvestres devem ser os últimos a serem considerados pelo governo para serem oferecidos em leilões, pois o potencial eólico pode estar em locais fora dessa zona. Um estudo ambiental forte e bem fundamentado pode descobrir que este local não deveria ser oferecido para construir os parques. Mas se algo falhar e um parque for construído nessas áreas, será necessário conhecer bem os períodos e evitar a geração e acidentes com a fauna, respeitando o meio ambiente.

Before construction, conducting thorough environmental impact assessments helps identify risks to wildlife. During operation, mitigation strategies like adjusting turbine speeds during high-risk times for birds and bats can reduce harm. It also helps to discuss this with the local community around the wind farm. By integrating these practices, we can balance the benefits of clean energy with the need to conserve our natural habitats, making wind farms safer for wildlife while providing renewable power.

Vielen Dank für die Frage und den Betrieb bei Windparks. Nachdem insbesondere hier in Deutschland bei Neuanlagen sehr viel getan wird mache ich mir wenig Sorgen. Zumal im Verkehr und durch den Eingriff im Bauwesen 600-2.300 mal mehr Tiere verenden und Natur zerstört wird als wie durch Windräder.

I agree with what others have said as of the time I am writing this about the need for comprehensive studies, use of smart/AI tech, etc., as well as Marco Schmidt’s comment that wind farm risks and harms are relatively small compared to others, such as vehicles, habitat destruction, etc. It’s important to acknowledge these things because it’s just as important, if not more, to reduce those risks that are of far greater harm than current wind tech. I would add that large, slower moving turbines are more effective because they give birds and bats plenty of time to adjust their movements or simply fly through without ham. The same is true for rotating blades on underwater turbines with respect to aquatic life.
