I have grown up in a bustling metropolis and have witnessed the transformational power of smart technologies. While these developments hold immense potential for efficient and sustainable solutions, I have also seen the balance required to preserve the historic feel of our cities. Many afternoons find me wandering down narrow alleyways, admiring the complex architecture that speaks silently of ages gone by. It reminds one that true innovation is not just about keeping up with the pace of technology, but also about upholding the roots that grew our cities. I also believe it's essential to have smart solutions incorporated thoughtfully within the emerging cities.

Preserving historical essence while adopting smart technologies is vital. This can be achieved by: -Subtle tech integration: enhance heritage sites with discreet technologies like sensors or AR without altering their character. -Adaptive reuse: repurpose historical buildings for modern needs while preserving their original appearance. -Community engagement: involve locals in planning to respect cultural values and historical significance. In my view, innovation and preservation must go hand in hand to honor the past and shape the future.

If technology can be used in city planning, development and management, surely it can also be used spacing heritage. Strength of technology can be leveraged for mapping, documenting and disseminating the heritage, preserving/conserving the heritage structures/areas, regulating the tourist traffic, minimise over-tourism, monitoring health of heritage structures, promoting safety , avoiding damage/loss to the heritage value of structure. Technology can also be leveraged to empower tourists to look for different tourists destinations, facilitate travel, rationalise travel and provide tourists directions for visiting different heritage sites besides helping him in finding suitable accommodation and making travel a pleasure.

As cities adopt smart technologies, preserving their historical essence requires thoughtful integration. Smart design solutions—such as minimalistic infrastructure, augmented reality for heritage promotion, and sustainable urban hubs—can protect historical centers while enhancing livability. By redistributing density through innovative developments and utilizing technology to restore and showcase cultural assets, cities can ensure that progress elevates their identity rather than erasing it. The future of urban evolution lies in achieving harmony between innovation and heritage, making cities both functional and timeless.
